Privacy policy

Last updated: 10 September 2026

This privacy policy applies to Checkers (also known as Damas & Draughts), and all our apps and games, published by MagicWordGames (“MagicWordGames”, “we”, “us”), and to our website at https://magicwordgames.com/.

This is a description of how the app works, not legal advice.

Our Terms of Service and account deletion page are part of the same set of documents.

Summary

You can play single-player and local two-player without an account. In that case we do not collect information that identifies you personally, except if you email us for support.

Online multiplayer is optional. It is off until you choose Play Online. It requires an account, is limited to people aged 13 or over, and other players can see a name you choose. If you never play online, the online sections below do not apply to you.

What we collect

Single-player and local play

We do not require personal information to play offline. On the device we store game settings, themes, local statistics, and similar preferences. That data stays on the device unless you back it up through Android.

If you (or a parent) email us, we use that email only to reply.

Advertising and diagnostics (all modes)

The app is ad-supported. We use Google AdMob for banner, interstitial, app-open, and optional rewarded ads. AdMob and related Google advertising services may use your advertising ID, IP address, and device information to serve and measure ads, subject to your consent where required (for example via Google’s User Messaging Platform in the EEA, UK, and other regions).

Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, and Performance Monitoring collect technical and usage data (device type, app version, events such as a game started or a crash). We have turned off advertising-ID collection for Firebase Analytics.

You can change advertising privacy choices from the in-app privacy options where Google requires that entry point.

Online multiplayer

To play online you must confirm you are 13 or older by entering month and year of birth. We use that only to decide whether you meet the age limit. We do not store your birth date. On the device we store only whether the check passed or failed.

You then need an account:

  • Google sign-in. We receive your email address, name, and Google profile photo from Google as part of Authentication. We use these to create and recover your account.
  • Guest. We create an anonymous account identified by a random account ID. Guest accounts live on that device. Uninstalling the app, clearing data, or losing the device permanently loses the guest account unless you later link it to Google.

You may link a guest account to Google later. We store an account ID for every online player.

Your player profile

  • A display name you choose. Names are checked against a blocked-word list. You are responsible for the name you pick.
  • An avatar chosen from a preset set in the app (not your Google photo).
  • Skill ratings per variant, and aggregate statistics (played, won, lost, drawn, streaks).
  • A push notification token so we can send match-related notifications.
  • Last seen time for matchmaking and presence.

What other players can see

During an online match your opponent can see:

  • your display name
  • your avatar
  • your skill rating and games played
  • whether you are currently connected

Do not use a display name you would not want a stranger to see.

There is no chat and no private messaging between players.

Gameplay and match data

For each online match we store the moves, clocks, result, and rating change. We keep match records after the match so ratings stay accurate and so we can investigate reports.

Presence

While you are in a match we store connection status and the current match ID so your opponent can see a disconnect. That presence record is removed when you are no longer in a match.

Reports

Players can report another player. We store the reporter’s account ID, the reported account ID, the display name at the time, the match, and the reason chosen from a fixed list. Reports are visible only to us.

How we use information

  • Operate the game, ads, and (if you opt in) online play
  • Matchmaking, ratings, and leaderboards
  • Prevent cheating, abuse, and fraud
  • Diagnose crashes and improve performance
  • Comply with law and respond to valid legal requests
  • Provide support when you contact us

We do not sell your personal information. We do not sell in-game items or subscriptions, and we never ask for payment card details.

Children (COPPA)

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 in violation of COPPA.

Online multiplayer is not available under 13. Before the first online account, the app asks for month and year of birth. If the result is under 13, online play stays blocked on that install. Single-player and local play remain available and do not require an account.

If you are a parent and believe your child under 13 has an online account, email contact@magicwordgames.com and we will delete that account’s personal information.

Sharing

We do not rent or sell personal information.

We share information only:

  1. Between players, as described above (name, avatar, rating, connection).
  2. Service providers that run advertising, analytics, authentication, andhosting (listed below). They process data for us under their own policies.
  3. Legal and safety — to protect the app, respond to law enforcement orcourt process, or investigate abuse.

Where data is stored

Online multiplayer data is stored on Google Cloud (Firebase) infrastructure, typically in the United States. If you use the app from elsewhere, that information is transferred there.

Retention and deletion

  • Profile data (name, avatar, rating, statistics) is kept while the account exists.
  • Match records are kept after a match, including after you delete your account, because they are also the opponent’s history. After deletion they refer to an account ID that is no longer linked to a profile, name, or email.
  • Presence is removed when you leave a match.
  • Reports are kept as long as needed to investigate.
  • Age-gate outcome (passed/failed only) stays on the device.

You can delete your online account in the app (profile → Delete account). That removes the profile, frees the display name, and deletes the authentication user. You can also request deletion at magicwordgames.com/delete-account or by emailing contact@magicwordgames.com.

Deleting the MagicWordGames / Checkers account does not delete your Google account.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export personal information, to object to or restrict processing, and to withdraw consent. Contact contact@magicwordgames.com. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
